Labiaplasty, which is commonly called vaginal rejuvenation, is becoming one of the most asked about cosmetic procedures. Many women are born with large or irregular labia. A labia minora that is enlarged or irregular can be caused by exposure to hormones during development or by chronic mechanical irritation or inflammation. Usually, the labia minora barely protrudes farther than the labia majora, if at all. However, if they are enlarged, the labia minora can protrude up to 2 ½ inches. This is considered aesthetically unacceptable to some women. Besides this, it causes irritation and problems with hygiene, interference with sexual intercourse, and can cause discomfort during physical activity like running or cycling. Protruding labia minora can also cause discomfort with tight clothing and, in extreme cases, social embarrassment and psychological distress.

Labiaplasty does not address the vagina itself and is not a tightening procedure. The reduction procedure causes little discomfort and is a minor operation. It can be done under general anesthesia or sedation. Dr. Oliver P. Simmons will remove the excess skin and the remaining skin is sutured. The sutures are dissolvable and the results of the surgery will be youthful and aesthetic. After a few weeks, the incisions are nearly invisible and sexual intercourse can be resumed in about five to six weeks. Labiaplasty has a very high level of patient satisfaction.
