Oliver P. Simmons, MD, FACS
Dr. Oliver P. Simmons, director of Simmons Plastic Surgery, LLC, is one of the country’s leading experts in plastic and reconstructive surgery. After completing training in the country’s number one hospital, Johns Hopkins Hospital, he taught there as a lead craniofacial surgeon. It was there that he gained experience in training dozens of residents and numerous fellows. After five years at Johns Hopkins, he decided to return to his home state of South Carolina and begin treating patients in the central South Carolina area. His practice, Simmons Plastic Surgery, is located conveniently just off of I-20 in Lexington, South Carolina, just minutes from downtown Columbia.
Board certified in plastic surgery, head and neck surgery, and facial plastics and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Simmons is one of the few surgeons in the country with triple board certification. Dr. Simmons prides himself on his multidisciplinary training. He received training with the best dermatologists, reconstructive surgeons, plastic surgeons, and eye surgeons in the country. After graduating from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Dr. Simmons completed a five-year residency program in Head and Neck Surgery. He then completed a two-year plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at LSU in New Orleans, LA. While there, he received extensive training in the treatment of breast defects and in the treatment of craniofacial and cleft care. Because of his dual training, he was recruited to lead facial plastics and craniofacial teams at numerous universities. However, he chose to pursue additional training in cleft and craniofacial surgery and advanced microvascular surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. The chair of Plastic Surgery there, Dr. Paul Manson, recruited Dr. Simmons to join the faculty before the end of his fellowship. Once he completed his fellowship, he began work as the lead craniofacial surgeon.
Dr. Simmons has published numerous articles and book chapters in medical textbooks, including Scott Spears’ book on Breast Reconstruction and George Jallos’ seminal textbook on Pediatric Neurosurgery, as well as other books on Craniosyostosis.
Dr. Simmons specializes in obtaining natural results for aging faces and rhinoplasty patients, as well as ethnic rhinoplasty patients. He specializes in procedures such as rhinoplasty, face lift, eye surgery, and facial injectables (Botox and Fillers), as well as the latest techniques for breast reconstruction and cosmetic body procedures.
Also an expert in the function of the facial nerves, Dr. Simmons has a special interest in patients with facial paralysis or facial synkinesis.
Dr. Simmons is dedicated to helping the less fortunate. He offers consultations and waives his surgeon’s fee when no other payer is available for victims of abuse. In addition to this, he donates his off time to the care of the world’s underprivileged cleft patients. He has been to Ecuador ten times and India once to care for these unfortunate patients. While there, he has treated hundreds of cleft patients and patients with burns, hand/foot deformities, as well as urogenital defects.
